Chat with the Vegas Insider Handicappers at 3:30pm EST. Our guest this week: Judd Hall

Vegasinsider.com handicappers give you the inside line on the weekends action and their top picks for the week.

Q: Julie (LA) Mr. Hall, thanks for the tip. I like Dodgers tonight even on road. D.Haren has really struggled in his last several starts going 1-2 with a 6.26 ERA in his last four starts and I think he continues to have problem tonight. Thoughts please?
R: judd Hey everyone, can't wait for a great chat and some football on the TV tonight.

Good hearing from Julie today.

Haren has indeed been on a downturn recently. Plus he's going against a Dodger team that is 18-12 against right-handers in road night games.

What makes me think Arizona can pull it out is that Haren lasted seven innings and gave up one run in his last start against LA this year.

Q: Bill judd....how are u doing ? hot quarterback duel between kellen clemens and rookie mark sanchez. who do u think will have the staring job? like rams tonight. Take care.
R: judd It is a really nice duel going on between Sanchez and Clemmens. The reports that I've seen say the battle is 50-50 right now. That is not good for Clemmens, even though he's starting tonight against St. Louis.

This is a guy that has had four years in that system and can't make headway against a rookie that had his college coach publicly say that he wasn't NFL ready.

Come the dress rehearsal game, Mark Sanchez will be starting. That will make it pretty clear who will be running the show.

I'm on the Rams tonight as well, Bill. First year head coaches failed to cover their first home preseason game last year. I expect that to happen again.

You should also consider pounding the 'under' here as well. Two former defensive coordinators not looking to screw up. Plus the Rams are going to be run heavy.

Q: Jimmy (Texas) Hi Judd. Thanks for being here with us this afternoon. Josh McDaniels makes his Broncos debut as coach tonight. Do you think he cares to win? I like ex-Buc Chris Simms and the Broncos in this spot. Take care
R: judd Hey there, Jimmy. Great talking to you.

McDaniels comes from the school of Bill Belichick. And that means preseason games are more of a nuisance than anything else.

I do, however, think that this game will have a little more importance because of all the youth the Broncos have on hand. Plus he wants to see how Kyle Orton will fare tonight. It sounds like you're a Simms fan, but he's going to be a sound backup choice for this club. Not exactly fair for the former Buccaneer, but that's how it goes.

Q: Gasan What's your favorite baseball pick tonight? I have small lean on Marlins looking to win the Wild Card race.
R: judd Hey there Gasan.

My favorite play tonight in baseball is the 'under' 7.5 for the Rays and Blue Jays. Halladay is a beast and Shields doesn't get run support no matter how well he pitches. Look for that to come through again tonight.

Q: Kyle It doesn't look like Sean Payton is given too much care to winning the preseason games at home. In fact, They have gone 1-5 SU and ATS at the Superdome since 2006. Do you expect the same or different outcome tonight when Saints play Bengals as 3-point favorite?
R: judd I don't have any action on this game personally. But if I had to make a play, I'd take the Bengals as the pups.

Lewis has had this team ready to play in the openers with a 3-0 ATS record recently. And I expect Cincy to improve that number given what you said about Payton and his care of playing New Orleans.

Q: larry Phils seem to be at their best when challenged, and they've been a great road team all season. I like Philly (ML +128) against Braves tonight. Any idea who might cover this game please?
R: judd You're right about the Phillies being an awesome road team this year. They freaked me a little when they couldn't win to save their lives at home to start the year.

This is a tough spot against Jurrjens. Atlanta's starter has had some questionable starts recently. But he had a great outing the last time he faced Philadelphia. Plus he's 3-2 with a 2.27 ERA for his career against the Phils.

Given that low ERA, maybe look at going 'under' 8.5 for tonight.

Q: John (Atlanta) Bet the Braves, not PHillies tonight. Plus, I am trying to get New Orleans -2.5 here.
R: judd Hey John,

I agree with you on the Braves tonight. Probably saw that in my last response though.

As for the -2.5 on the Saints, you're going to have buy that point somewhere. Mostly likely online, but I doubt you'll get that for exhibition football.

Q: Teddy Judd, any idea why Minny is the favorite over Manning and the Colts? This line looks fishy so I am interesting in betting big on the road team laying short number. Later Judd
R: judd Hey Teddy!

First thing you need to look at is the fact this isn't a regular season game. Indy would be at least a seven-point favorite in that spot.

For preseason, the Colts don't give a damn. This is a spot where you just don't want people to get hurt.

During the Dungy Era, Indianapolis is 1-7 SU and 1-6-1 ATS. Minnesota is 4-2 ATS in preseason road tilts with Brad Childress at the helm.

The numbers point to the Vikes. But there is no problem with taking the Colts here. It is your money. =)

And with that, I bid you adieu. Have a great and profitable weekend.
