Q: kent hey judd hall, how you doing, quick question. i'm looking at the eagles and and panthers game. do you think the new and improved eagles team can come through with the ML against the tough carolina home crowd and defense?
R: judd Good afternoon, everyone. NFL games finally count and we've got a legitimate non-conference battle in college football.

I've been looking at this game a lot, Kent. This is a match where the public and media have jacked up the line. Carolina was originally listed as a 1.5 point favorite, but are now an underdog by the same margin...more in some spots.

I don't buy into that late movement here because Delhomme is going to do fine on home turf here. And the Eagles did nothing that makes me think that they'll be up to the task.

Q: peteyboy who do u like steeler or titans
R: judd Um...A little late to the game on this one. If it makes you feel better, I had the 'over' in this one.

Q: danny (clt) hey judd, how are you doing? I had a few college picks i wanted to run by you and see ur opinion on them. UNC-4.5, wake forest -3, memphis over 52.5, toledo +4, and w. michigan +1. Thanks for your opinions!
R: judd Hey Danny,

I am with you on the Tar Heels covering against the Huskies. I'm not too keen on the total play or Memphis or Toledo as a home 'dog. Instead, take a look at the 'over' in tonight's Rockets-Buffaloes battle. Toledo has the offense to make that happen and I think Colorado has enough to run up that score.

Michigan is a great play, but you'd be better suited to take them on the money line with such a short number.

Q: Grant-MD Hi Judd, thanks for your time! I thought I read somewhere about a football line of "5", and that it had some signifigance. and that the books are trying to say something...I forget what it was...can you share anything?..hope this isnt a stupid question, thanks and good luck to you this weekend!
R: judd I was just asking around and there doesn't seem any significance to that number really.

What I would be more concerned with is when you get a short spread for a team that you think should be much more of a favorite. Anytime you see that, you should start thinking about the other side or just stay away from the game in general.

Definitely not a stupid question since it got us thinking over here.
Good job outta you! =)

Q: Jason (Little Rock) Judd, thanks for the time! Without going into detail, I like UNC -4.5, E.Carolina +7, and UNLV +7. Any thoughts on those? Appreciate it--best of luck this weekend!
R: judd Hey Jason,

I'm on that UNC line...even took them for my college handicapping challenge piece. Not really sold on ECU for this week against the Mountaineers. They haven't won in Morgantown in 12 tries and this is a revenge spot. The UNLV play isn't a bad one with the Beavers going out to play without Lyle Moevao. However, the Rodgers brothers are enough of an incentive to think OSU will win.

Q: Bob Hi Judd, thanks for taking my question. The underdogs have been barking the past few days in football, do you see that trend continues tonight? I believe Colorado will win big on road tonight wheh they meet Toledo but of course what do I know. Take care now.
R: judd Hey Bob,

I'm know that Colorado has a little more experience in the offense they're running. But I really liked what I saw out of the Rockets last Saturday. Did they have their mistakes at Purdue? Sure, but they still were able to put up 31 points. I don't believe the Buffs have the horses right now to cover, let alone win.

Q: Nigel (Virginia Beach) Hay judd, I want to start off by saying thank you for your advice last week it really helped out. This week im thinking about taking Northcarolina(CFL), Army, and Houston(CFL), ATS, what are your thoughts? Thanks.
R: judd Thanks for the kind words, Nigel. Always good to get on the good side of folks.

I've already spoken about the Heels and Huskies, so we'll leave that one be.

Army is one of my favorite picks this weekend. The Cadets took to the triple option much faster than I expected and have a solid defense. Duke, on the other hand, just fell to Richmond. I will say that I think the Spiders are a better team than the Black Knights, but should be able to cover a low spread this weekend.

As for Houston, the offense is there with Keenum running the show. I don't think they'll come away with a score on each drive because of the Cowboys' much improved defense.

Q: jim kallas pittsburgh pa i need a sure winner for sat games.i have to make up for thursdays lost i took steelers -6 thank you judd
R: judd That's a tough loss last night thanks to Hines Ward. Maybe he had the Titans. =)

As for Saturday's best winners, take a look at the 'under' for the Army-Duke game. I like to go with low totals for teams that have great defenses and a good ground game. the Cadets fit that bill.

If you want more winners, check out my picks for tomorrow.

Q: Detroit Lions are catching 11 points this weekend. Will they only lose by 10 points please?
R: judd It's always good to get a question from a mystery guest.

Don't be too down on the Lions here to cover that number. Can you tell me anything that impresses you about the New Orleans defense? I can't think of one.

Anyway, I do have a play on this game in my NFL package.

Q: Gary Smith I have trouble understanding why the Vols are 8-point favorte this weekend against UCLA. Would you trust the ưnderdog to this game outright?
R: judd You might want to check that line because it is Tennessee -10 now. That isn't a line worth playing...especially for a team that is playing its second game under Lane Kiffin. Not worth the look if it stays in the double-digits.

Q: Rman Hello Judd. whom do you like better this week. Utah or BYU in CF to cover? Thanks
R: judd That is a tough question. And my first answer would be neither of them. But if I'm forced to make a pick, then I'll take Utah. San Jose State didn't do anything that would make me believe that they could hold up against the Utes. BYU, is in a let down spot after such a huge win. I don't believe that Tulane will win beat the Cougars, but they have a better chance of covering the number.

Q: I LOVE Vandy +15. LSU QB Jefferson, who has just 4 starts, still in a learning mode. Thanks for your time
R: judd That's a great call on the Commodores here. Vandy isn't the biggest or best team, but they are very well prepared. That makes them a tough out in my book. Plus the Tigers are coming off of a long trip home, failing to cover against Washington as well.

Certainly worth a look.

Q: Terry (L.A) Your thoughts on taking Iowa State? They've won 4 of the last 5 in the series at home, they are 22-4 ATS at home off a non conference win, Plus Iowa's starting LT and RB are out. What am I missing here?
R: judd I actually made the Cyclones one of my picks for this week's handicapping challenge. Iowa's loss last Saturday leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Plus the Hawkeyes haven't covered the spread since 2003. Why start now?

Alright folks, that's all for me this week. Great chatting with you and good luck this weekend.
